;DNaomi: Ellen, would you like some wine? Ellen: Well why not? There's nothing like good wine and friends. Naomi pours Ellen a glass of wine: Ellen: Or cheap wine and relatives.

This thread is the reason I joined this board! ;D
I saw the episode recently where Vint won a talent competition at The Bigger Jigger. There was another competitor that we didn't see. When Mama came in, she asked, "did he swallow his tongue?"
Later, after some hilarious hi-jinks, Mama and Vint were locked in the men's room at the Jigger. The tongue swallower was supposed to be "guarding" the room. When he didn't answer, Mama said, "the dumb cluck must have swallowed his ears." ;D ;D
She had me with "dumb cluck," but then she had to add "swallowed his ears." Think about it; how do you do that? What a scream! I almost fell off the couch laughing!

I guess one of my favorite quotes would have to be from the Wedding episode, where Eunis (excuse the spelling) tries to ruin everything. Mama has given Venton his daddy's saphire ring, which Eunis says should be hers, because her daddy promised it to her. Being angry, and bitter toward Mama and Naomi, she begins to sing her solo, and things go North real quick...
EUNIS:(in song) Oh promise me that some-day you. and I... Will take out love up to some distant sky... What is a promise? There are many kinds of promises. (moves over to Naomi and lifts up the saphire ring around her neck) Like the promise of romantic love. Or the promise that little one makes when he crosses his heart and hopes to die.. But, the most sacred promise of them all.. is a promise that a MAMA... makes to her daughter.. that is a promise that is written in BLOOD...
MAMA: Get a grip on yourself Eunis, or I'll kill you!
EUNIS: Looks like you write all of your promises in disappearing ink old lady!!
Ok, I might have messed up a little bit on Eunis' solo, but that is pretty much how it went. FUNNY....

eightiesfan, "things go north real quick" that made me laugh out loud, actually quite loud cause i'm from the north but i can't stand the north and love it in the south i hadn't heard that expression before but i love it , did you make that up or is that an expression in the south? i want to move down south when i can but for now it's "wash and wear" lol the positive thinking episode is funny when the positive thinking tape is played and it says... "hello my name is arther brewster" and Mama walks in and blurts out " well who the hell asked ya" and when the tape says, "repeat after me, i can do anything" and mama says,"oh yeah try livin with these looney tunes you dip stick" to the tape lol classic!!!!!!!!!!! and also, in general, just how Mama would point her finger at people in that stern like way is so hilarious !!!!!

Hello bestcomedyaround. Yes, I have heard that expression used in movies and have read about that expression. I live in Pensylvainia and absolutely loved it when I went down to Florida. The South is very nice. (well, Florida was very nice). It is an expression I had heard years ago. It is used to mean when things go bad, or wrong. And when we're talking about Mama, you know things go NORTH ALL THE TIME.. LOL... And that was a funny episode. I watched an episode the other day, and I can remember what was said. In this episode, I believe Mama was going to take Iola to an audition for the Jepordy Game show. Venton and mama are arguing and Venton says,
VENTON: Those questions that they ask are tough.
Mama turns to Venton with a look of disgust.
MAMA: Venton, you couldn't answer the questions on Sesame Street..
Later, Venton reflects back on what Mama has said, and Venton says,
VENTON: Mama's wrong.. The only time Big Bird ever stumped me was with a silent "K."
LOL, that was just too funny!

My favorite is from the episode with the psychic
Vinton. It's tricky but you have to think it out.
That's become a saying in my house.

I have this my message on my cell phone. Too bad it's my voice instead of Mama's Mama: "It's your dime spill it!" My all time favorite Mama quote.

I've been a Mama's Family forever.....
I have so many different quotes that I absolutlely adore!
A few that come to mind right away are.....
When Naomi is going to school to be a Flight attendent, and Mama is helping her get ready for her exam. So they are in the living room and Naomi keeps strutting back and forth. Mama: what the heck do you call that? Naomi: What? Mama: That walk that your doing? Naomi: What's wrong with my walk, I'm doing the Sturdess Glide Mama: It looks more like a Pigeon in Heat.
Then another quote was when Iola was going to sell an idea to a door-to-door salesman. Vint wanted to show an idea of his own with all the old locks that he had laying around. Vint: You've heard of the Pet Rock, well let me introduce you to the Pet Lock. Mama: Vint you've had some stupid ideas, but this one qualifies you for Handicapp parking.
The last one that I rewind in my head all the time for a good laugh, is when she's babysitting. Bubba comes into the room, when Mama is holding the baby. Bubba: Hey Grandma whatcha doing? Mama: Well Bubba, either I'm holding a baby or I'm making out wiht a midget.
OMG.....I absolutely love Mama. I'm so glad that they have put her back on tv, and I really hope that they don't mess with it anymore~!!!

My brother and I have an ongoing quote from Mama's Family. Anytime we are drinking or out having a drink we always laugh and use the line.
Fran: I'll take another smidge of that wine Naomi, Honey! (Fran says it obviously drunkish)
It is in the Episode of the night before Vint marries Naomi and they are decorating the house.
My brother isn't really the type to enjoy Mama's family, but he is seen me watching this episode over and over and he really enjoys that part and quote.

My favorite quote was from Mama when Ellen was in the hospital and she was thanking Mama for coming to visit and Mama says, "That's alright, baby. That's what families are all about, doing things that make you miserable."

Good grief i have alot of favorite quotes!!! Alot of them would be from Mama ....of course... I like it when she is at the bigger jigger with the family and that comedian is there and she starts insulting him and he challenged her to get up in front of everyone on open mic night and she took it. well naomi and bubba were telling her she would have to be prepared and she would bomb in front of live audience...well mama says, "Im not going to do it." Vint says, " But what about that old saying the show must go on?" Mama says, "I got another saying Vint, The HELL with it!!!" That is just classic right there!!!
